Private Label Fragrance Packaging: Your Options
The right packaging gives a fragrance range a recognisable identity. An existing bottle, well-chosen decoration and a coordinated carton can work together without every component being designed from scratch.

At a glance
- Set the presentation, quantity and target cost before selecting components.
- Distinguish existing designs from components requiring custom development.
- Assess the assembled pack alongside the liquid and final artwork.
Set the packaging direction
Describe the customer, sales channel and look you want. A perfume collection, home fragrance gift set and car fragrance gift can have different priorities. Use a few relevant references to communicate the direction.
Identify the features that matter most, along with the preferred size, quantity and target cost. This gives packaging selection a clear basis and helps you decide where custom details will have the most value.
- Product format, customer and sales channel
- Visual direction, colours and preferred materials
- Quantity, target cost and essential features
Compare existing and custom components
Ask which bottles, caps, pumps, reeds and other components are available from existing designs. An existing bottle with distinctive decoration and a coordinated carton may achieve the presentation you want without developing a new bottle.
Custom components can require additional development, samples, setup costs and minimum quantities. Review those implications before selecting a design. A reference image communicates an idea; it does not establish availability or the cost of producing it.
| Component option | Points to review |
|---|---|
| Existing design | Specification, sample, finishes, availability and minimum quantity |
| Custom development | Development work, sample stages, setup costs and timing |
| Customer-supplied component | Specification, samples, delivery arrangements and assembly requirements |
Develop decoration and cartons together
Consider labels, bottle decoration, carton and insert as one presentation. Check which decoration methods suit the selected component. Obtain the artwork template, printable area and colour references before finalising the design.
Plan how customers will distinguish the fragrances. A consistent brand layout can use clear fragrance names or other design differences across the range. List which elements are shared and which require separate artwork or components.
- Decoration method and printable area
- Colour and finish references, including physical samples where needed
- Carton, insert and product arrangement
- Sampling and setup charges
Review the complete pack
Review the selected components, artwork and packing arrangement together, including how they work with the liquid. Identify any differences between the sample and the proposed production version before approval.
The quotation should list the components and operations included, such as decoration, filling, labelling, assembly and packing. Keep it with the final specification and files so that design, purchasing and production refer to the same version.
Example: a packaging brief
“We are developing an understated perfume range using an existing clear bottle, a coordinated cap and a printed carton. Please suggest component options and itemise decoration, samples and setup charges.”
