CUSTOM FRAGRANCE DEVELOPMENT
Custom fragrance development for your brand.
Develop a scent for your perfume, home fragrance or car fragrance range. Cedar Aroma works with your brief, target cost and sample feedback, then supplies the approved fragrance as concentrate, ready-to-fill liquid or a finished private label product.

FRAGRANCE CREATION AND SUPPLY
From your brand idea to a fragrance brief.
Start with the product, customer and scent character you have in mind. You do not need a formula or a complete list of notes; we help turn your preferences and commercial requirements into a brief for sampling.
01
Develop for the application
The product format, formulation and intended use guide fragrance selection and evaluation from the outset.
02
Refine through sample feedback
Compare coded samples and identify the changes that matter, giving each development round a clear direction.
03
Connect creation with production
Choose fragrance concentrate, ready-to-fill liquid or private label manufacturing according to what your business needs to source.
THE DEVELOPMENT PROCESS
Brief, sample, evaluate and approve.
01
Define the fragrance brief.
Connect the scent to your brand, customers and product positioning. Reference fragrances, preferred notes and visual references can all help communicate the direction.
Product and target customer
Specify perfume, home fragrance or car fragrance, the intended customer and the markets where you plan to sell.
Scent character and references
Explain which aspects of a reference appeal to you and which you would change. Include notes you favour and any to avoid.
Cost, quantity and schedule
Share the target cost, expected order quantity and launch plans so development can reflect the commercial brief.

If some details are open, send the information you have and we can develop the brief together.
02
Explore samples and refine the direction.
Initial samples give your team a shared reference. Identify the closest option and prioritise the adjustments needed, from the opening notes to the overall balance.
Choose the development approach
We review whether an existing fragrance or custom development best fits the brief, then outline sampling requirements and any development charges.
Give specific feedback
Refer to the sample code and describe the change: less sweetness, more woody character, brighter top notes or a softer finish.
Compare successive samples
Evaluate revised samples under consistent conditions and retain your preferred version with the feedback, so each round builds on a clear reference.
Woody — Dry, warm or smooth wood notes.
Amber — Warm, rounded notes with resinous character.
Gourmand — Vanilla, cocoa and other edible-inspired notes.
Fruity — Fresh, juicy or rich fruit notes.
Citrus — Bright lemon, mandarin or bergamot notes.
Fresh & Green — Airy, leafy and crisp green notes.
Floral — Delicate petals or full floral bouquets.
Fragrance families provide a starting point for describing the scent you want.

03
Assess the scent in the finished application.
Fragrance blotters are useful for initial comparison. Application trials show how the scent behaves in your formulation and packaging, and form part of development before commercial supply.
Perfume
Evaluate the fragrance in the intended perfume base and concentration, with the selected bottle and spray assembly.
Reed diffusers and room sprays
Assess the liquid with the bottle and reeds or spray pump, using conditions representative of the finished product.
Car fragrances
Specify the air freshener format, materials and release system to establish the sample and evaluation requirements.
Your own formulation
Share your base formulation and trial requirements. Plan the tests and feedback your team will provide during development.
04
Approve the fragrance and specification.
Record the selected sample code, application and product specification. These become the reference for the quotation, first production order and reorders.
Sample approval
Approve the final sample and document any changes. For finished products, include the liquid, components and packaging in the approval.
Technical information
Request the specifications, Safety Data Sheets and application-related documentation your team needs, with availability reviewed for the selected material.
Confidentiality and commercial rights
Raise confidentiality, exclusivity or formula ownership requirements before development begins so the terms can be agreed in writing.

05
Choose how to source the finished fragrance.
Development can lead to concentrate supply for your formulation team, prepared liquid for your filling line, or a finished product carrying your brand.
Fragrance Oils
Fragrance concentrate for your own formulation and manufacturing, supplied against the approved sample and specification.
Bulk Fragrance Liquids
Formulated, ready-to-fill liquid for a specific application, with your team handling filling and retail packaging.
Private Label & OEM
Finished branded fragrance products, including the specified liquid, containers, filling and retail packaging.
The quotation sets out quantities, included production work, pricing, lead time and delivery terms.
FROM BRIEF TO PRODUCTION
A practical route from scent idea to supply.
01

Send the product type, customer profile, scent direction and target cost.
02

Compare samples and assess the preferred scent in the intended formulation.
03

FRAGRANCE DEVELOPMENT FAQ
Starting a custom fragrance brief.
Do I need to provide a fragrance formula?
No. Start with your product, scent preferences and target cost. A reference fragrance can help communicate the direction, and we can work through the remaining details with you.
Can I send a fragrance reference?
Yes. Describe what you like about it and what you want to change. We use references to understand your creative brief rather than to guarantee an identical formula.
Can one fragrance be used across a product range?
Yes, a consistent scent identity can be explored across a range. Each format needs its own formulation and evaluation, so include all intended products in the initial brief.
What are the development fees and minimum order quantities?
Fees and minimum quantities depend on the development work, sample requirements and supply format. Share expected quantities early so these can be discussed before work begins.
Can I buy only the fragrance oil?
Yes. You can source the approved fragrance as a concentrate for your own formulation. Ready-to-fill liquids and private label manufacturing are also available for customers needing further production support.
